Suspending of Church Services March 16, 2020 Going Forward Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you or forsake you.” Moses then summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you will go with this people into the land the Lord swore to give to their fathers. You will enable them to take possession of it. The Lord is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”  [Deuteronomy 31:6-8]  We stand at the precipice of the great unknown.  The COVID-19 virus is changing everything we thought we knew about the normalcy of life.  There are very few people left in the world who have experienced a pandemic of this proportion.  We are on to some extent unprecedented ground. It is in times like this when we show the strength of our faith.  This doesn’t mean that we ignore what is going on around us but instead we stand firm in our belief in God.  All things have a purpose.  No matter what happens we continue to praise him for who He is and for what He has done for us. Five days ago  the CDC recommended “for organizations that serve high-risk populations, (that we should) cancel gatherings of more than 10 people.”  Today the Whitehouse made that announcement. Therefore as the person charged by God to care for His flock, I am effective immediately complying with the guideline.  There will be no Devotional, Sunday school Church Service Bible Study or Youth group on First Southern Baptist Church grounds.  I do this with much reservation but I do so after discussion with the Trustees, Deacons and other key persons in this church.  Ultimately the responsibility rests with me and I do this with the assurance in my spirit that it is absolutely the right thing to do. I understand some of you may disagree with this decision.  It is your right to do so, however I must do what is best for the all members of the church not just a few individuals. I am not just closing the doors, saying God bless and walking away.  For those of you with internet access I plan to have sermons on our FSBC website: https://www.fsbcpahrump.com/home/
and our Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FSBCPahrumpNV platforms.
For those of you without an online presence, we will have the DVD’s available in a weatherproof container in the alcove in the front of the church. The survival and health of our people is our primary concern.  At the same time I have been asked “How does our church survive without Tithes and Offerings?”  My answer to that is each of us, especially during this time of uncertainty, must search ourselves and ask for God’s guidance.  For anyone wanting to give online: https://www.fsbcpahrump.com/give-2/ or you may mail your tithes and offerings to the church: P.O. Box 399, Pahrump, NV 89041. I gave my phone number on Sunday (775 910 3221).  You may also call the church at 775-513-6009. If there is anyone who needs me I am but a phone call away.  Know this.  I am  not abandoning you or the church: quite the opposite.  If I didn’t care I’d just pack you in until everyone was too sick to come, but then I’d have to look myself in the mirror and answer to God.  You have heard me say: “My worst fear is disappointing God.”   Trust me.  This is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make in my life and my career as a Pastor. Neither I nor our Governmental leaders have any idea when or if life will return to normal: I pray it will.  I pray that when our new normal comes, I hope to see each and every one of you at First Southern Baptist Church: “Where friends are made and souls are saved!” Be Blessed in Jesus name and read your Bible! Pastor Floyd B. Banks First Southern Baptist Church Pahrump 775 910 3221 775 513 6009 Here are some guidelines from the CDC website: There are some common sense measures everyone can take to protect themselves and others from the spread of respiratory illnesses including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.

It is also good practice to start being more aware of the number of times a day your hands touch an object or hard surface and then touch your face without being washed. Limiting the exposure of your nose, mouth and eyes to unwashed hands can help to protect from the spread of all germs and illnesses. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community-mitigation-strategy.pdf https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/get-your-household-ready-for-COVID-19.html

This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
